Description
SS 446 Round Bar (1.4762) / UNS S44600 Round Bars
SS 446 Round Bar is a ferritic, non-heat treatable stainless steel that provides good resistance to high temperature oxidation and corrosion.
Stainless Steel 446 also known as Ferritic SS 446, contains a high level of chromium in its composition and therefore demonstrates high resistance to both corrosion and oxidation. In fact, it possesses the best oxidation resistance out of any of the 400 grades of stainless steels. It may equal that of the 300 grades, but tends to display lower resistance to high temperature applications.
SS446 is commonly applied in high temperature situations that require excellent corrosion and oxidation resistance. It is utilized in burners, boiler parts, and other thermal applications. The alloy is best applied within the temperature range of 1500 – 2100°F. At approximately 1000°F, the alloy is opened up to the potential of embrittlement. Many high chromium alloys are susceptible to this.
To minimize this possibility, it is necessary for SS 446 to be formed and bended at low speeds. Annealing can also be utilized for embrittling prevention. Fillers may also be applied to maximize ductility.
446 grade stainless steel composition is what makes it ferritic stainless steel which has good resistance to high temperature corrosion and oxidation. SS 446 is an alloy with high chromium ferritic properties and AISI 446 composition gives it better heat resistance and has excellent resistance to sulfidation, oxidation and other kinds of hot corrosion.
446 stainless steei is a ferretic stainless grade, which can witdh stand to very high temperatures. This grade is shown as AISI 446, EN 1.4762, X10CrAlSi25, UNS S44600. 446 stainless steel contains high quantity of chromium, aluminium and silicon and all these element combinations increase this grade’s heat resistance. 446 stainless steel is a magnetic stainless steel grade and it is hard to make welding to 1.4762. It is not so easy to machine this grade. Because of its ferretic structure, 446 material can endure to high mechanical forces up to 500 degree celcius. 1.4762 stainless steel is not a really common stainless steel grade and 310 stainless could be an alternative in many different applications.
