What is 16MnCr5 Grade ?
16MnCr5 Round Bar Steel are alloyed case hardening engineering steels for parts which require core tensile strength of 800 – 1100 N/mm² and good wearing resistance. It is an engineering material typically used to manufacture piston bolts, camshafts, levers and other vehicle and mechanical engineering components. 16MnCr5 is an alloyed case hardening steel used for e.g. mechanical engineering components.
16MnCr5 grade is low alloy chromium, manganese case hardening steel. Carburised 16MnCr5 gives a hard case with a strong core whilst retaining a degree of toughness. It is suited for applications which require a combination of toughness and wear resistance and is commonly supplied in round bar. 20MnCr5 is also available in our stock with different range of diameters.
Carburising / Case Hardening :
Case hardening will give a hard wear resisting surface combined with a tough core strength. Case hardening temperatures range from 780-820°C, followed by rapid quenching and tempering which will determine the resulting hardness.
