Description
EN30B Round Bars
EN30B Round Bars / 835M30 Round Bars is a Nickel Chromium Molybdenum Alloy Steel Through Hardening Steel. EN30B is widely used for plastic moulds, but is also suitable for many other applications. The hardening treatment is relatively simple, quenching in air or oil from 810 – 830°C followed by tempering, with excellent mechanical properties being obtained. Owing to its strength this steel can be used for compression and transfer moulding as well as injection moulding and the relative freedom from distortion makes it superior to case hardening steels for complex mould applications.
Due to its high hardenability, these strengths are achievable by air from the hardening temperature.
This steel is used for applications requiring high tensile strengths for which more drastic quenches would produce distortion or cracking, especially in parts of intricate design.
835M30 steel is still often referred to as EN30B steel its equivalent grade under the previous BS 970: 1955 standard.

Applications of EN30B / BS 970 835M30 :
Down-hole tools, heavy duty construction tools, rock drilling bit bodies, highly stressed gears and transmission components, heavy duty shafts and rolls.
Gears, shafts, high duty bolts, high duty spindles and other demanding maximum strength, toughness or wear resistance. This steel is shocked in the annealed condition, to render machining possible, and must be heat treated as follows: harden in air (or oil for larger sections over 2½” diameters) from a temperature of 810°C / 830°C. Temper, if desired, at a suitable temperature nor exceeding 250°C.
