Description
AMS 6415 (4340) Round Bars
AMS 6415 (4340) is a sub-type specification of Steel 4340, which is low-alloy nickel-chromium-molybdenum steel with medium carbon content. The material comes in the annealed condition, but other sub-specifications come in the hardened and tempered conditions.
The quality of the alloy changes significantly after treatments, with higher strength obtained after normalizing, hardening, and tempering. For added surface hardness, an additional treatment of flame or induction hardening (Rc 50) or nitriding (Rc 60) can be carried out.
AMS 6415 also becomes harder to machine and weld after normalizing, hardening, and tempering. Thus, special care should be performed. If absolutely necessary, a coarse lamellar pearlitic structure or a spheroidized structure is recommended for machining.
Textron Steel and Alloys offers AMS 6415 in a Round Bars & Forgings. The material possesses excellent toughness, very good abrasion resistance, very good shock and impact resistance, and good atmospheric corrosion resistance. As a result, it finds use in various fields, including heavy machinery industry, commercial aircraft industry (landing gear), various automotive uses, rocket motor cases, pressure vessels, and fasteners, ordnance hardware.
AMS 6415 this specification covers an aircraft-quality, low-alloy steel in the form of bars, forgings, mechanical tubing, and forging stock.
AMS 6415 (also known as SAE – AISI 4340 Alloy Steel) is a steel that is low alloy steel that is commonly used in the construction of aircraft and other high-stress applications. Its superior strength and durability set it apart from other steel types, making it a popular choice for industries that require materials that can withstand harsh conditions. SAE – AMS 6415 metal is also known for its exceptional resistance to wear, making it suitable for use in parts that experience a lot of stress or friction. Despite its tough nature, it is still relatively easy to machine and weld, making it flexible and easy to work with. Overall, AMS6415 metal is a versatile and reliable material many industries trust for its impressive properties.
