Description
SS 410S Plates Stainless Steel
SS 410S Plates is a ferritic stainless steel with higher Chromium content compared to 409 grade to impart better corrosion resistance. Stainless Steel 410S (UNS S41008) is a low carbon, non–hardening modification of Alloy 410 (UNS S41000) the general purpose 12% chromium martensitic stainless steel. The low carbon and a small alloy addition minimize austenite formation at high temperatures which restricts the alloys ability to harden. SS410S remains soft and ductile even when rapidly cooled from above the critical temperature. This non-hardening characteristic helps prevent cracking when the alloy is exposed to high temperatures or welded. SS 410S is completely ferritic in the annealed condition. It exhibits adequate corrosion resistance similar to 410 and good oxidation resistance.
This low hardening characteristic helps to prevent cracking when the steel is welded or exposed to high temperatures. The alloy is completely ferritic in the annealed condition.
Unlike 410, 410S stainless steel presents complete ferritic structure and magnetism under annealed condition. Setting mechanical properties apart, 410S stainless steel exhibits similar corrosion resistance to that of 410 stainless steel and has good oxidation resistance. It can resist mild acids and through proper cleaning can sustain daily exposure to chlorides such as uses for food and sports related activities.

Corrosion Resistance of SS 410S Plate :
Stainless Steel 410S Corrosion Resistance is similar to type 410. It resists corrosion in atmospheric conditions, fresh water, mild organic and mineral acids, alkalis and some chemicals. It’s exposure to chlorides in everyday activities (e.g., food preparation, sports activities, etc.) is generally satisfactory when proper cleaning is performed after exposure to use.
Annealing of Type 410S Plates, Sheets & Coils :
Grade 410S stainless steel is annealed at 649-760°C (1200-1400°F) and then cooled in air.
Heat Treatment :
410S is not hardenable by heat treatment. It is annealed in the 1600 – 1650°F (871 – 899°C) range and then air cooled, mainly to relieve cold working strains. Care should be exercised to avoid exposure at temperatures of 2000°F (1093°C) or above because of possibleembrittling effects. If excessively large grains are found after annealing mildly cold-wor ked material, the annealing temperature should be decreased to the 1200 – 1350°F (649 – 732°C) range.
