M42 Round Bars
M42 Round Bars is 8% Cobalt mix Molybdenum HSS (High Speed Steel) which has rich high red hardness and very excellent cutting abilities as a tool steel as compare to HSS M35 due to its ability of having 8% Cobalt. HSS M42 Round Bar is finest effective High Carbon; High Speed steel grade based on Mo, with high resistance to wear, red hardness and toughness. This steel grade displays good grind ability as a result of its low V content. Tools severe mechanical wear, e.g. in cases of small cross-section cuts and high cutting speeds.
It has components such as Molybdenum (Mo), Tungsten (W) & Cobalt (Co), Vanadium (V) grades, possessing high hardness, excellent cutting properties, red hardness making it as one of the best fine grade tool steel to generate hardness upto 64-66 HRC post heat treatment.
This conventional steel has mix of cobalt & Moly elements and carbides in it are small and evenly distributed. It has high Tensile strength & wear resistance. This grade is most effective and economically priced making it most commonly used high speed steel grade.
M42 tool steel, a type of molybdenum high speed tool steel, has good wear resistance and hot hardness along with high hardness values.
What Is M42 Steel?
M42 high-speed steel (HSS) is a cobalt molybdenum tool steel, sometimes known as 1.3247. The chemical composition of M42 tool steel includes 8% cobalt which delivers high hardness and superior red-hardness.
It can be heat-treated to a 68-70 HRC hardness, providing fantastic wear-resistant properties. As a result, the composition and mechanical properties of M42 steel, when applied to cutting tools, stay sharp and deliver high-production cutting applications.
